Sidney L. Manes

Sidney was a close advisor to Bousquet Holstein PLLC since 1992 and has left a profound impact on our firm and community. He was a proud veteran of WWII, distinguished attorney, passionate environmental advocate, and a once-in-a-lifetime personality.

One of Syracuse’s first environmental law practitioners, Sidney was an exceptional litigator whose work shaped some of New York State’s most influential environmental decisions. He was among the first lawyers to review and lecture on the National Environmental Policy Act and helped develop the Environmental Law Sections for both the New York State and Onondaga County Bar Associations. He was honored for 50 years of Distinguished Service by the Federal Bar Association in 2008.

Sidney was a self-made man who worked full-time throughout his studies to put himself through college and law school. His commitment to justice and compassion for others inspired him to provide countless hours of pro bono legal services to community members in need. In 2006, he was awarded the honorary title of “Empire State Counsel” by the New York State Bar Association in recognition of his exceptional pro bono contributions.

One of our favorite memories of Sidney was his participation in Honor Flight, traveling with other veterans to Washington D.C. to be honored for their military service among the nation’s historical monuments and war memorials on the National Mall.

Sidney’s legacy is one of unwavering service, kindness, and dedication to the greater good. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in Peace, our dear friend.
